When Katy and James first got in touch with me about their Hargate Hall wedding in Buxton, I was so thrilled – they were planning a really fun festival wedding with Swedish style speeches, vegetable florals and even colourful decorations. Katy and James seemed like the most fun people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding! It was also unusual because the couple were living in New Zealand at the time and were doing all their planning before the moved home to Sheffield.
I began the morning at Hargate Hall, where the couple and their families were getting ready, and it was so chilled out, because everyone was in a good mood. Katy wore a stunning lace dress and James wore a really sharp suit and they looked so perfect. I was so impressed with Katy’s bouquet, which was made completely out of vegetables as James has a severe pollen allergy. James had a button hole made of chillis! So unusual, but so effective.
The wedding took place at Hargate Hall, and was a small intimate ceremony. They had personal vows they wrote themselves, which brought pretty much everyone to tears. After the ceremony they were showered with confetti, and then had bubbles and canapes.
The wedding reception took place in the Marquee, which they’d decorated with the most amazing rainbow streamers. It was so wonderfully personalised.
It was a sunny day, which was perfect. While the guests ate canapes, the couple mingled and laughed with their friends. My favourite photos from the afternoon are definitely from the speeches. The guests all took in turns to share different stories, songs and poems about the couple and there were so many laughs and tears. It was just fantastic, so personal.
During the reception they had beer from Bradfield Brewery and also a range of New Zealand beers, which went down a storm. For the wedding breakfast had a meal prepared by Whirlowbrook catering and it was absolutely delicious. After the meal they cut the wedding cake, then the couple hit the dancefloor and they went straight into the first dance “Come Up and See Me” which everyone loved. The party went on long in to the night – these two certainly know how to party!
